The golfer had to be removed from the vehicle with the “jaws of life” after the single vehicle crash.

Tiger Woods is hospitalized following a single vehicle crash Tuesday morning.

According to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Office, Woods was the driver and sole occupant of the vehicle, which rolled over and crashed into a road at 7.12am PST (3.12pm GST) at the border of Rolling Hills Estates and Rancho Palos Verdes, California. The sheriff’s office said his vehicle “suffered significant damage.”

“Mr. Woods was pulled from the wreckage with the ‘jaws of life’ by Los Angeles County firefighters and paramedics, then transported to a local hospital by ambulance for his injuries,” the statement said.

Woods is undergoing surgery for “multiple leg injuries,” his agent Mark Steinberg said in a statement to Golf Digest.

Woods, 45, attended the PGA Tour Genesis Invitational in Pacific Palisades, Calif., Last weekend, although he did not make the tournament as he is recovering from recent back surgery .

“I feel good, a little stiff,” Woods told CBS on their tournament broadcast. “Schedule another MRI to see if the ring has finally healed, then I can start doing more activities.” Still in the gym, still doing the mundane things you need to do for rehab, the little things before you can start to gravitate towards something a little more.

Woods has a history of high-profile car incidents, the first in 2009 when his vehicle hit a fire hydrant and collided with a tree near his home in Florida. It turned out that Woods was running away from his wife, Elin Nordegren, who discovered he had been involved in extramarital affairs and kicked him out of their home by brandishing a golf club.

This episode tarnished Woods’ impeccable reputation and resulted in the loss of sponsorships and a disruption of the professional golf circuit for several months.

Then, in 2017, Woods was found by police asleep at the wheel on the side of a road in Florida and arrested for driving under the influence. Woods blamed the prescription drugs he was taking for back pain.
